Mazatlan

Mazatlán boasts long stretches of palm-lined beaches and the leisurely pace of a world-class tourist resort. In Old Mazatlán, visit the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, crowned with a gold ceiling, and then stroll through the colonial-era Plaza Republica with its charming Victorian bandstand. Teatro Angela Peralta, dating from the 1800s, is a national landmark. Your visit to Mazatlán, “The Pearl of the Pacific,” would not be complete without witnessing the daring cliff divers who jump from the highest rocky staircase at the Sanchez Taboada esplanade, right on the oceanfront along the seaside boardwalk.

Old Mazatlan Walking Tour (EV, JO)

Leaving the pier, it's a short transfer to the Continuity of Life monument where you will meet your guide and set off to explore Mazatlan on foot.

First up is a brief stop to admire the daring cliff divers who make breath-taking dives from the cliffs for your enjoyment (and tips!). Mazatlan's beautiful shoreline offers up wonderful views of the offshore islands, Ice Box Hill and monuments such as La Mazateca, El Vanadito and the City's Shield, heart of Mazatlan's famous annual Mardi Gras.

Making your way on foot, you will next navigate your way through the city's historical center, passing such notable sights as the Military Hospital and Bank of Mexico, along with charming traditional homes. You will also have a look at the town's oldest bakery and stop at the House of Music and Museum. Along the way, a short break for some complimentary refreshments is taken before proceeding to the wonderful Angela Peralta Opera House, built in honor of the world famous singer.

Continuing on, you will walk to the civic center where some of the sights you will see include the charming Main Square, City Hall, the imposing Inmaculada Concepcion Cathedral and open market. After approximately 3 1/2 hours, you will meet your transportation and travel back to the pier where your tour comes to an end.

City Tour & Folkloric Show (KE)

Celebrate the cultural and historic highlights of Mazatlan on a full-day adventure that includes a majestic 19th century cathedral, scenic coastline and death-defying cliff divers. Visit a renowned beach resort, savor the flavors of Mexico at a luncheon buffet and delight in a folkloric show with traditional costumes and music.

Begin with a scenic drive from the port and travels through the beautiful, historic old town to the dramatic 19th century Immaculada Concepcion Cathedral.

At this masterful architectural landmark, note the intricate façade, the twin towers and the outer domes, which are adorned with bright yellow European Tile. The impressive white sculptures of St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, and St. John that preside over the four corner entrances. Interestingly, this cathedral displays a gothic style exterior and shows little signs of Spanish architectural influences. Even the cathedral’s interior is known for its baroque style. Facing the cathedral is Plazuela Republica, with its charming early 19th century bandstand and mature palm trees.

Continue your drive along the sparkling coastline for views of outer islands and ocean-front properties. In the distance, the world’s highest natural lighthouse, El Faro, peacefully stands guard over this picture-perfect scene. A rocky promontory greets you, and here you’ll make a brief stop to watch the local cliff divers. Marvel at the death-defying feats that these high-flying divers perform as they plunge into the rocky surf from a 59-foot high ledge. Divers must time their descent perfectly, and you may notice other divers at both the top of the cliff and at its base helping the diver to time his leap.

From here you’ll make your way to the “Golden Zone,” Mazatlán’s shopping and hotel mecca. Your destination is Hotel Playa, where you will be hosted for an afternoon of fun and relaxation in this sun splashed playground to the rich and famous. Hotel Playa, which was the first hotel to be built along the beach over 55 years ago has been beautifully restored and welcomes you to a wonderful Mexican buffet lunch.

The hotel’s many amenities are also yours to enjoy, from swimming at the beach or in the hotel pool, to sunbathing. Your tour concludes with a complimentary taxi ride back to the pier through Mazatlan Ocean Front Boulevard, a long, colorful promenade along the beach
After approximately 50 minutes of free time, you will rejoin your coach and transfer back to the pier where your tour concludes.

Please note: Light weight clothing; comfortable, flat walking shoes; sun caps; sunglasses and sunscreen are suggested. Shorts are not permitted in the Cathedral. The order of the sites visited or viewed may vary.
